i think steve will win.
for sure steve will win.
the thing is, apple does just what nintendo did, but we all grew out of nintendo's market range.
unless nintendo releases a phone that steams nintendo games for $$, that you can customize with all the other crAPPS, theres really no question.
nintendo has historically been the only company who does not lose money on every single console sold with the hopes of making it back on software, but once everyone owns a ds, you're obviously not selling too many more. ds's (and wii's were, for that matter) have been selling at ridiculous rates for years, i'm surprised it kept up for this long.
games on the wii are crap. devs don't make games for core gamers on the wii because it's underpowered and gimmicky (waggle!), and core gamers don't own/play their wii's for that same reason. it's a vicious cycle.
in any case, the casual gamers market is getting quite crowded. i can only hope the backlash from things like banning flash and strangling developers turn into something real, because as much as people love having steve jobs tell them how to compute, i think i should be able to compute any damn way i want.
think and you shall receive! apple should take a page from nike
apple! JUST HACK IT!
lol... hacking != complete control over the user experience, aka apple, aka nazi germany
"this is america, jack! now, you say one more word about lisa, and i'll break my foot off in your royal ass!"
coming to america is a good movie
Do nintendo cater do a different segment of the market?
Their games are not like movie productions, but they do a good job of making games that are generally just fun.
even for older gamers, nintendo has always had the fun and nostalgia factor in their corner - but the main thing was that they always delivered. mario, zelda and metroid were always A+ titles, but when they introduced the gamecube it was the first time a nintendo system launched without a new mario game to accompany it. i trace their slide into the casual market from here, because up until then core gamers always bought nintendo systems without thinking, because the games were good. a lot of core gamers feel slighted that nintendo is focusing on the casual market and there isn't that much in terms of AAA titles for the wii, from nintendo or otherwise.
also, since it doesn't have the horsepower (or the normal interface) of the 360 or PS3, devs don't really want to fool with it, since everything basically has to be redone to work with a shitty CPU and the 6 button/Analog/DPAD wiimote control scheme (360/PS3 have 10 buttons, 2 analog sticks and a DPAD).
